1. Do I need to be a member to come out on adventures with the club?

No, you don’t need to be a member of Absolute Adventures to join us on any of our adventures. Everyone is always welcome! However, if you come out with us at least once a month, you will save money by being a member and will also get to take advantage of all of our membership benefits. 2. Why should I become a member? What are the benefits?

If you come out on at least one event per month you will save money by becoming a member. The small monthly dues you pay will quickly be earned back the first event you attend. In addition to the money you will save on adventures, you will also be privy to an array of discounts. Absolute Adventures offers its members discounted Club Med Vacations, discounts at gear stores such as Sports Basement, discounts at fitness clubs such as Gorilla Sports, discounted massages, and much, much more. Check out http://www.absoluteadv.com/membersh.htm for all the details about membership and its benefits.

3. Do you help arrange carpools?

Definitely, we always encourage people to share the driving. The week before each adventure Absolute Adventures sends out an email to all of the participants with all the details for the trip. If you need a ride or are willing to give a ride, we instruct you to “Reply All” and let the group know your plans. If this doesn’t work out, an Absolute Adventures staff member can help you to make a plan.

4. What are the people like who come out on the adventures?

Absolute Adventures trips primarily consist of a good mix of males and females mostly ranging in age anywhere from mid 20s to mid 40s. However, everyone with an adventerous spirit is welcome to join us. All are intelligent, fun, active people just like you, who share a love of the outdoors and real adventure. Most are busy professionals - for them, weekend plans are hard to put together so they let us do all the work for them. All of our members and guests share a desire to meet other people who enjoy adventure and like to have fun!

5. How hard-core are the adventures?

You don’t need to be an Ironman triathlete to keep up with us - we have something for everyone. We have the full range of activities from leisurely day hikes to 2 day high elevation hikes and from wine tasting to heart-pounding sky diving. If you are unsure about any adventure, you can take a look at our calendar where we rate each activity on a scale from 1-10 – as the numbers go up the more you sweat.

6. Do I need any prior experience or special equipment to particpate in the events?

No. Most of our events do not require prior experience in the activity unless explicitly stated in the event description. Many participants join us on events like rock climbing and white water rafting because these are the kinds of things that they have always wanted to try but haven’t had the opportunity (or a fun group to go with!). Most of the events begin with a brief introduction with a certified instructor who will also provide you will all the necessary gear. That being said, all levels are always welcome – expert climbers can definitely hone their skills right along side the novices – as we do our best to organize events so that everyone, no matter what their experience background, can have fun and learn! Keep in mind however that our camping trips do require you to bring certain items such as a tent and sleeping bag as is stated in the event description on the calendar page. Some of these items can also be rented from us for a small charge.

7. How do I sign up for events?

Visit the calendar page of our website (http://www.absoluteadv.com/calendar.htm) to sign up for as many adventures as you would like. Just click on the “Register Now” link below any event to bring you to the sign up page. If you have any specific comments or concerns you can make a note in the “leave a note for the staff” section. If you don’t have internet access or have trouble using the website feel free to give us a call at 415-505-5964 and a staff member would be happy to help you. Once we receive your online registration a staff member will contact you by phone to answer any questions you may have and to arrange for payment. Please make sure to enter in your name, email address, and phone number when signing up for events – otherwise we will not know who you are!

8. If an event is marked as full, should I sign up for the wait list?

YES! If an event is marked as full, you should sign up for the waiting list if you would be interested in attending the event should a spot open up. People do cancel from events fairly regularly so it often works out. And, don't worry - there isn't any commitment. If a space opens up, but you've already made alternate plans, no problem, we'll just continue on down the waiting list.

8. How do I know how to get to an event location?

A few days before each event, you will receive an email will all the details for the trip including directions, what to bring, meeting time and carpool list. If you need further information or you do not have email access please contact a staff member.

10. Are you a singles organization?

No, we’re first and foremost an adventure club. It does work out that many people on our trips are single but couples or “committed” people often take part as well. We’re all about meeting other great people with whom we share a common interest and passion for the outdoors. If you meet that special someone, all the better!

11. What about your social events – those aren’t adventures!?

Many first time participants like to join us for one of our weeknight social events to meet other members and guests before committing to coming on an adventure with us. We don’t make any money from these outings – it’s just another way for you to get to know one another and the staff. Nervous about joining one of the overnight trips with a bunch of strangers? Come on out to dinner with us and ask one of our veteran members what the events are really like!

12. I don’t live in San Francisco – do you ever have events on the Peninsula or in the North, South or East Bay?

Although many of our weeknight events do take place within San Francisco, we run events all over Northern California. We often organize trips in the South Bay including horseback riding in Saratoga, rock climbing at Castle Rock, skeet shooting in Morgan Hill, surfing in Santa Cruz and much more. There is also plenty going on in the East Bay and North Bay. Our members are from all around – some live as far as Sacramento!

13. Do most people come on your trips with friends/others? Can I just come by myself?

Helping to bring outdoor enthusiasts together in a relaxed, welcoming environment is the main goal of Absolute Adventures. Most new (and veteran!) participants come to events by themselves. Occasionally a couple or a group of friends come together but the vast majority of participants come to meet others just like you!

14. How far in advance do I need to sign up for an event?

The sooner you sign up for an event the better as some trips do have limited availability. However, you can also always call us at the last minute to find out if there is still room on any event. Weekend plans fall through last minute? No problem! Give one of the staff members a call and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Our social events and hikes are very laid back and there are no limits so feel free to simply show up and bring friends, although if you can let us know (even as you’re driving to the trailhead!), we’d really appreciate it.

15. What if I have a group of people who want to participate in an activity? Do you plan private parties?

We do organize events for private parties. If you’d like to take part in one of our events but want to do it on a date that is not regularly scheduled or you have a large group that would like a private trip, contact us and we will organize an adventure just for you! Make sure to inquire about our group discounts.

17. I have certain dietary restrictions – can I still participate in one of the overnight trips?

Of course! If you are a vegetarian, vegan, or if you simply have an intense aversion to cheese simply let us know and we will plan the meals accordingly.

18. I’m a member of one of your partner organizations. How can I take advantage of my complimentary membership?

20. How do I pay for a trip?

We don't ask for you to enter in your credit card information online when you sign up for a trip. After you sign up for your first trip with us we will contact you by phone to answer any questions you may have about the event. To be confirmed on the trip we will need to get credit card payment from you which we arrange over the phone. If you have signed up far in advance, you will be charged two weeks before the event. Once you have joined us on a trip, we will keep your credit card information on file and will use that card for any future events that you sign up for unless you contact us and would like to use a different card. Once we have your billing information we will no longer contact you by phone every time you sign up for an event.
